The video pretty much speaks for itself so I won't go on about it. I actually had never seen the original video so I was actually shocked to see that a university student had this kind of mindset! This goes really well with what we did in class today with Kobayashi. Its clearly obvious that the university student (not sure of her name) is being racist but since she is giving her opinion/freedom of speech should she be dismissed from university? Not sure what actually happened since this is over 6 months old but it just makes me think...what would happen if someone at Saint Mary's said something like that. What would our school do?
Yeah, I can see a link with what Kobayashi said in her article, but since she didn't speak much about students, I wonder what other students or you might think about how systemic racism works among students at a university.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen this video but found it rather interesting. (the stupid blonde girl) as said in this video is posting videos that aren't nice and racist. If a Saint Mary's student was to do this, Saint Mary's wouldn't only expel the student but would probably have weekly or monthly mandatory meetings with all students and faculty. UCLA is a pretty diverse school much like that of any university, the reason behind alexandra doing what she did may have been wrong, but this raises another issue of how parents raise their children and how does racism get eliminated in order to create a more tolerant and professional student to student interaction.

Frightening because I see two stereotypes- on the one hand the Asians and on the other hand the typical "white" person (or other call her stupid blonde girl). I see also the connecting with Kobayashi's topic racism in University, but kobayashi speaks more from systematic structures.
